HELEN OTTAWAY is a composer, pianist and installation artist.  She was born in Oxford and studied at University of London, Goldsmiths’ College. As a student in the 1970’s, she took part in projects led by Cornelius Cardew and John Cage, also appearing in Peter Greenaway’s film on Cage for Channel 4. She was a founder member of the new music performance groups Regular Music and 3 or 4 Composers and performed internationally with experimental theatre companies including Lumiere & Son and IOU.

As a composer she specialises in site-specific work and collaborations with other artists. She has written music for films and for performance in Cathedrals and railway arches. Commissions include Bath Film Festival, Nottinghamshire County Council, Oxford Contemporary Music, The Dean & Chapter of Salisbury Cathedral and the BBC.

Helen’s most recent composition, a piano piece to accompany artist Franko B’s new performance piece, ‘I’m Thinking of You’, premiered at the National Review of Live Art in Glasgow in February 2009 and is currently touring the UK and Europe.  Helen is the artistic director of Artmusic.
